Hey guys..
I may have actually met a few of you before. My name is John Clark and I ran 2 LAN Halo Events in the Omaha/Lincoln Area about 2 years ago. (Lincoln Bricktop Bar and Omaha Ferrels Bar).
Anyway.. www.ivghof.com
Coming in a week is a HUGE LAN party/event in Ottomwa Iowa called the International Video Games Hall of Fame. The 'Big Bang' is the competition name.
We will be running a 2v2 Halo3 Event. We are not totally sure on the gametype and rules as we are working within time constraints. This event will have $1000 in prizes!
1 - 400
2 - 300
3 - 200
4 - 100
We will also be running 'Crazy 8 Cups'. These cups will be smaller 8 team/player events for Halo3 and other games where the winners get a quick $25 to $50 in prize money!
Head over to the website and check out the event! There will be concerts, give-aways, tournaments, etc... Some of the top gaming pros will be there as part of the event.
Please message me if you have any questions about the event or the Halo 3 Tournament. _________________ John R. Clark

Guys.. the format will be kinda cool actually. Every team will play at least 3 matches and that is just in the Main Event. Remember.. there will be other 'Crazy 8 Cup's that you can compete in for quick prize money as well!
Here is Format of Tournament
2v2 Halo 3 (still deciding on gametype..but we have leaned towards OddBall as something a bit different and more about fun!)
World Cup Style Format (so lots of chances to advance!)
4 Groups of 4 teams (16 teams)
Play each team in your group 1 match (bo1)
Winners of each group Advance to Finals Bracket
2nd and 3rd place will play in a 'Relegation Bracket' with the 4 winners advancing to the Finals Bracket.
You will then have 8 teams in the Finals Bracket playing b01 until the Finals (bo3).
Its possible we will change up some of this as time allows..but it would be more matches..not less!
Please feel free to comment or make suggestions!
We do have some wiggle room. Also.. if there are more then 16 teams .. we will increase the format and prize money most likely!
You guys would whoop up on the guys coming from MN, IL and other places! _________________ John R. Clark

wow Hightower.... so if you go down there and win 500.00 just in the Halo or COD event..not considering that you could win money in BOTH or win a few Crazy 8 Cups.. and come home with 700 or more.. that is not worth it to you?
Sorry to hear that.. you must have a baller of a job!
I am driving down there for free room and board and that's it. Paying for my own gas to get there and work for 4 days.. but I love gaming and running events!
Just saying..
Shoot.. Ill give you and your buddies a ride. I have an 8 passenger SUV and room for 4 more!

If we can get a carpool going, I'm definitely in.
OT: Hightower doesn't figure the math for 1st place prize money, because he knows he won't place top 4 anyways. _________________

If you would kindly provide more info about the Halo 3 event, such as schedule, gametypes, whether or not the prize money is guaranteed, etc., I would appreciate it. _________________ AIM: scblocker21

The prize money was just up'd to 1300.00 total. Along with other Halo 3 Crazy 8 Cups, where you grab a partner and come play in an 8 team single elimination bracket to win a quick 50.00.
Currently we have Halo 4 set for 2v2 oddball gametype. BUT.. I am willing to get some input on the gametype and setup if you have some suggestions. The reason that we chose Oddball was to stay away from what MLG is going..this event is more about having fun and winning money then anything and Oddball offered up a set time for each round and such.
The way I have Halo 3 setup is World Cup Style Group Play. Every team will get at least 3 matches with more then half of the teams getting at least 4 matches in.
Let me know your thoughts on this. _________________ John R. Clark

Personally, I think if you are sticking with the 2v2 layout, you should go with Slayer games.
With 2v2 Oddball, a default score of around 100 seconds is in place. Even on maps like Guardian, if you kill your opponents that is an easy 10-15 seconds of time. Killing them three of four times in a row, and the game is practically over. :/ Just my two cents. _________________

Agree.
And for the Oddball gametype, do you mean the default Team Oddball in the game? Or would it be a variation, such as MLG settings? Would each round after group play be 1 game rounds? Single elimination or double?
IMO, tournaments are either about winning money or playing fun gametypes, mixing those usually doesn't end well. |
